About
I started taking photos as a hobby in 2008 when I bought my Nikon D40.
I explored photography for almost a year then later decided to get a formal training. As a student, I discovered a deep interest in the art of visual storytelling - also known as photojournalism
Alongside with my family, I went for a road trip to Cutud, Pampanga in 2009 to do a dry run as a photojourn.
I took photographs of penitents flagellating themselves and re-enact the crucifixion of Jesus Christ amidst scorching heat. I was amused on the number of tourists, local and foreign media that flocked also to witness the same 'bizarre' event.
I met Karl, bureau chief of Agence-France Presse in Manila, having a few minutes off from taking photos. I shared to him my desire to be a news photographer and how clueless I was on how to enter the profession.
I was surprised when he offered me an internship to their bureau. I thrillingly accepted and this was when my journey to the world of news photography began.
I enjoyed the daily rush of adrenaline, most especially listening to veteran news photographers on how they risked their lives for one click of the shutter.
My 1-year stint with AFP has taught me a lot. I would say that 'how to let a voice be heard through a single image' was the most significant.
When not taking pictures, I search for photos to listen to its 'voice' .. and maybe 'act' if I am asked to.
Now, every time I look at a photograph I do 3 things: Look. Listen. Act.
I always make sure not to leave the 3rd one behind ...
